Gold Barb

The gold barb is an active, mildly aggressive schooling species that spends most of its time in the mid-level and bottom of the water.

Species – Gold Barb – Barbodes semifasciolatus

Current Size – 2cm – 3cm

Adult Length – 7cm

Temperature Range – 16 – 24°C

pH Range – 6.0 – 8.0

Special Requirements –  Should be kept in a shoal of 6 or more. If kept in small numbers, their fin nipping behavior can become evident.

Tanks Mates and Compatibility – Generally very peaceful making it an ideal resident of the well-researched community aquarium.

Fishes inhabiting similar biotopes in nature, especially comparably-sized, peaceful cyprinids perhaps constitute the best choices but other potential options include balitorid, cobitid, and nemacheilid loaches as well as benthic cyprinids such as Crossocheilus and Garra species.

deal Number to Keep – Try to buy a mixed-sex group of at least 8-10 specimens, including other schooling fishes to provide security, and you’ll be rewarded with a more natural-looking spectacle.

Feeding – In the aquarium it’s easily fed. The best condition and colours offer regular meals of small live and frozen foods such as bloodworm, Daphnia, and Artemia. Alongside good quality dried flakes and granules, at least some of which should include additional plant or algal content.
